Don't be a Buzzkill

Product Design

Don't be a Buzzkill is a product designed to help save the bees. This small package contains loads of goodies and can fit through the mailbox.

Since 2009, the UK's bee population has decreased by over 30%. I wanted to find a way to raise awareness of this problem and to create a fun activity from it.

The Don't be a Buzzkill package contains a small informational booklet, posters, stickers, a zine and more! There is also an app which people can use to share their photos and experiences of bees with other bee lovers.

Brief: Final Major Project
Year: 2019

1/3 of the UK’s bee population has disappeared over the last 10 years

Across Europe nearly 1 in 10 wild bee species face extinction

More than ever before, we need to recognise the importance of bees to nature and to our lives, and we need to turn that into action to ensure they don’t just survive but thrive.

Whether you have a small patio, or a large garden, growing flowers and plants is a fun and effective way to help the UK’s bee population and other important pollinators like butterflies and hover-flies. With the bee population slowly decreasing, our gardens are vital for the survival of these important pollinators.

As well as giving them food, a bee friendly garden also gives them shelter and well needed resting spots.

App Design

The Don’t be a Buzzkill app is a mix between Instagram and Pokemon GO in where users search for and collect different bee species. People can share pictures, play games and meet new friends while at the same time, saving the bees by raising awareness and constantly updating their conservational status.
